June 1, 2020 Message from President Mike James
We’re all affected now by the novel coronavirus and the need to stay safe and healthy. To that end, we’ve made changes to our programs and the ways in which we interact with you:
- We are introducing a new on-line participation program, “A Casa,” a chance to meet and interview residents and community leaders in our sister city. In May we talked with Giorgio Moretti, artist and owner of L’Antica Deruta, creators of the artwork in our own Piazza Perugia. In June we’ll meet Michele Fioroni, former member of the Perugia city council, now leading economic and digital innovation for the region of Umbria.
- We’re also planning online lectures in both Italian and English on topics of interest in both our cities. (Do let us know your own ideas for those conversations/lectures!)
- Our Caffe Umbria “La Tavola” conversation forum is going online! We’ll use short readings in Italian to start conversations, then move into whatever participants wish to discuss.
- We’re also looking forward to other online activities such as cooking classes, tours of art galleries and live walks through Perugia and Umbria.
We are partnering with Comune di Perugia to host an art exhibit in the city’s Palazzo della Penna. The Migration Project, set now for autumn, 2021, is an opportunity for selected artists in Seattle and Perugia to create works, together, around the theme of migration, i.e. of ideas, people, and art itself.
We ‘re excited about the year to come and ask you to join us again! We acknowledge that these are difficult times and ask that you consider a donation to the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association as well as your membership renewal. Grazie!
As we all adjust to an unprecedented moment, thank you for your financial and participatory support of the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association! Andiamo avanti – insieme!
