May 21 was a special day in Umbria, the last day of the third annual “Civic Week,” Settimana Civica, which culminated in the March for Peace (La Marcia PerugiAssisi).

SPSCA is proud to have had two members of our organization participating in the 24km march from Perugia to Assisi: German Rodriguez, our president and longtime member, and member Winson Law, our May scholar, studying Italian at the Università per Stranieri in Perugia. It was a beautiful day and an important cause!

The 49th annual Seattle International Film Festival runs in person May 11–21, 2023 taking Seattle moviegoers on a cinematic odyssey at venues across the city, followed by a week of select films streaming on the SIFF Channel May 22–28. Grazie mille to those who joined us for a fun afternoon of wine tasting and antipasti at Casa Italiana Italian Cultural Center. We enjoyed sampling seven Italian wines from all over Italy, delicious appetizers provided by Board member and former restauranteur, Karen Binder, and great conversation. Among our guests at this sold-out event were long-time as well as new SPSCA members and special guests from Perugia, Sandford & Gosti, whose art was featured at our Migration Exhibit last fall in Perugia.

It was a lovely day at Borracchini Farm over the weekend for our annual Membership picnic, thanks to all who attended! It was lovely weather, great food, and fantastic company. Thanks to SPSCA Board Member Susie for taking such fabulous photos at the event!

Seattle-Perugia Sister Cities Association was a proud participant in 2021 in the creation of The International Table; Recipes from the Seattle Sister Cities, a compilation of recipes from Seattle's 20 sister cities. In 2022, the Seattle Sister Cities Association (including the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association) was honored to receive the prestigious 2022 Sister Cities International Innovation in Arts & Culture award for the Seattle Sister Cities cookbook! Per the recognition, "This award is in recognition of the work done by [our] organization in advancing the goals and mission of Sister Cities International."
