Visual Art Performance "Vocabolario: Construction Grammar Geode 2": October 11, 4:30pm

SANDFORD&GOSTI, a renowned artistic duo from our sister city Perugia, are recognized worldwide for their impactful work. They now bring their captivating 15-minute bilingual performance to Seattle as part of their acclaimed global journey.

This thought-provoking piece, in Italian and English, explores the influence of words using two iconic dictionaries, the Nuovo Zingarelli (1990) and the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (2000), as tools of language construction. Through papier-mâché, words become metaphors, highlighting their power in shaping communication.

Inspired by Carlo Levi’s idea that “words are stones,” the work emphasizes lasting impacts. The papier-mâché “geode” represents volcanic rocks, with words as the crystal core, illustrating resilience versus hurtful words. The piece ultimately advocates nonviolence and constructive language.

This performance, part of Giornata del Contemporaneo, is supported by AMACI (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, and Italy's Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, promoting Italian contemporary art worldwide.
